Grief Leave: Finding Healing Through Compassion, Movement, and Self-Care

Grief is a journey I never imagined I’d face so deeply, but when we had to put our sweet 16 year old Bailey doggo down I realized I had to choose how to move through it.

For me, that choice was "grief leave." I gave myself permission to pause—to feel, reflect, and heal instead of pushing forward like nothing had changed. In this blog, I want to share what I’ve learned about navigating loss with compassion, movement, and self-care, and how these tools have transformed my healing process.

Grief isn’t just an emotional experience—it’s physical, mental, and spiritual. In Hawaiian culture, there’s a concept called kaumaha, which translates to “heaviness.” It beautifully describes how grief feels in the body: a weight that slows us down.
